With the The Black Keys still on an indefinite hiatus, drummer Patrick Carney and John Petkovic of Cobra Verde, Sweet Apple, and Death Of Samantha have announced the formation of their new band, Sad Planets. Sad Planets’ debut album, Akron, Ohio, is due out on April 19th via Tee Pee Records.On the new album, Petkovic plays guitar and handles lead vocals, while Carney plays drums and other added percussion instruments and synths. The album was recorded in Carney’s studio in Akron, and a press release calls the sessions “a celebration of their friendship.” Carney and Petkovic are both Akron, Ohio natives, though the former has moved to Nashville and the latter now resides in Cleveland. The University of Georgia Griffin campus will hold its inaugural Dawg Dash 5K on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 9 a.m. on the campus located at 1109 Experiment Street in Griffin, Georgia. Registration is available at dawgdash2019.eventbrite.com and the entry fee is $20 if preregistered by Nov. 13. Late or event day registration is $25. Participants who sign up by Thursday, Oct. 31, will receive an official Dawg Dash 5K T-shirt. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Griffin-Spalding County United Way and UGA-Griffin.
