Former Penn State QB Tommy Stevens Named Starter At Mississippi State

Aller/Getty Images)Former Penn State quarterback Tommy Stevens received huge news on Thursday afternoon.Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead announced Stevens will be the team’s starting quarterback when the season opens next weekend.Three months ago, Stevens decided to take his talents away from Happy Valley. After spending a short time in the transfer portal, Stevens revealed his decision to transfer to Mississippi State.“I am very blessed to have the opportunity to go to a place like MSU, where I can create more relationships and more experiences,” Stevens wrote on Twitter. “A place that will give me the opportunity to compete at the highest level and also a place where I can expand my education even further.” After just three months on the team, Stevens won the starting job.BREAKING: Tommy Stevens has been named Mississippi State’s starting quarterback. #HailState🐶 pic.twitter.com/3cB8jhF4oU— Mississippi State Football (@HailStateFB) August 22, 2019At Penn State, Stevens backed up Trace McSorley, but was also used as a receiver and runner. Over the last three seasons, Stevens rushed for 506 yards and eight touchdowns on 76 carries while catching 14 passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns.As a passer, Stevens is 24-of-41 in his college career, throwing for 304 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.The former three-star quarterback got comfortable in Moorhead’s system before he left to become the head coach at Mississippi State.Now he’ll lead the Bulldogs on the field.last_img
